Soul Speaks Out
The Black Rep Theatre has been a hallmark of the St. Louis arts community since 1976. For its 43rd season, the theatre company wanted to cast a wider net of awareness within the city and fill its seats with new attendees. So we brought the magic of the theatre to the streets of St. Louis, crafting a campaign that brought its deeply embedded soul to life with vibrant posters and interactive teasers inviting audiences to attend.
Speaking from experience.
In the spirit of ‘Soul Speaks Out’, I imagined what our featured characters would say for themselves if they were writing their own show poster. So I wrote in first-person. And headlines morphed into intriguing invitations to see what happens next.

"With this fist, I breathe in love. And I step in protest."

"Trace the story of my scars. Meet the movement at my feet."

"We are black as we are magic. Under my spell, you'll find them both."

"We sing as sisters. We die as legends."
Not your average show poster.
To tease the shows, we developed QR-enabled billboards linking to actor performances, offering curious onlookers a glimpse of what they might experience at the theatre.
